I have been working on a design for a bike share system since October of 2008. I filed for patent in June of 2009, and entered the Copenhagen Bike Share Design competition last fall. At the end of February, I left the Department of Transportation to focus on this project full-time.
I am currently prototyping the design and hope to test it in New York this fall. This 4th generation bike share system is more scalable and cost-effective than existing systems, and uses GPS, mobile communications, and a secure lock that can be accessed by a mobile phone.
